Composition
An alloy of iron and titanium (typically 30–75% titanium).
- Acts as a deoxidizer and grain refiner in steelmaking.
- Removes nitrogen and sulfur impurities.
- Improves the strength, corrosion resistance, and weldability of steel.
Applications
Used in producing stainless steel, tool steels, and high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steels.

Which ferro titanium grades are available?
Commonly 30% and 70% titanium grades. Aluminium, carbon, silicon and sulphur limits are set against your specification.
What is ferro titanium used for?
It fixes carbon and nitrogen and refines grain structure. In stainless it acts as a stabiliser, preventing chromium carbide forming at grain boundaries during welding — the mechanism behind grade 321. It is also used in welding consumables and interstitial-free steels.
Which grade should I choose?
The 70% grade delivers more titanium per tonne handled and suits larger additions. The 30% grade dissolves more readily and is often preferred for smaller, more controlled additions. Your addition method and target level usually decide it.
How should ferro titanium be handled and stored?
Keep it dry and store it away from ignition sources; finer fractions in particular require care. A safety data sheet accompanies every consignment.
Can it be supplied as cored wire?
Yes. Titanium delivered as cored wire avoids much of the oxidation loss that comes with lump addition, which gives better and more repeatable recovery. See our cored wire range.
