Silico Manganese (SiMn)

Questions we are asked

Frequently asked questions

What is your standard silico manganese specification?

Typically 60–70% manganese with 14–20% silicon and carbon up to around 2%, with phosphorus limits set to your requirement. Exact ranges are confirmed per contract.

How much silicon does silico manganese add to my heat?

More than most buyers allow for. Adding 1.2% manganese from a 65% Mn, 17% Si grade contributes roughly 0.3% silicon at typical recovery. If your grade has a tight silicon ceiling, that figure decides whether silico manganese or ferro manganese is the right choice.

Why choose silico manganese over ferro manganese?

It deoxidises better, because silicon and manganese together form liquid manganese silicate that floats out readily, and it carries roughly a quarter of the carbon of high carbon ferro manganese. It also does two jobs in one addition.

What sizes do you supply?

Commonly 10–50 mm and 10–80 mm, crushed to other fractions on request, with a maximum fines percentage stated on the contract.

Do you export silico manganese, and to where?

Yes. We manufacture at Durgapur, West Bengal and export to Europe, the UAE and South Asia, supplying both bulk and containerised shipments.

Can you meet a specific phosphorus limit?

Phosphorus limits are set at order stage and confirmed on the mill test certificate. Send us your ceiling along with your tonnage and we will confirm what we can hold.
