Ferro Chrome Silicon is an alloy of Chromium and Iron containing between Containing 38–45 percent silicon and less than 0.1 percent carbon, this alloy is used as a deoxidizer in the production of stainless steel and as an intermediate material in the production of low-carbon ferrochromium. Because of the greater energy required to reduce silica to silicon, the smelting of ferrochrome silicon consumes 7,600 kilowatt-hours per ton of product. Available on request only.

Frequently asked questions
What is ferro chrome silicon used for?
It supplies chromium and silicon in a single controlled addition, which suits stainless and specialty alloy production. It is also used as the reductant in the silicothermic production of low carbon ferro chrome.
How does it differ from ordinary ferro chrome?
Ferro chrome silicon carries substantially more silicon and generally lower carbon. Where a grade needs both elements, it avoids a second addition and the extra handling that goes with it.
What composition do you supply?
Chromium and silicon ranges are set against your specification, with carbon held low. Contact us with your target chemistry and we will confirm what we can hold consistently.
What sizing is available?
Standard furnace and ladle fractions, crushed to order, with a maximum fines percentage stated on the contract.
Is third-party inspection available?
Yes. Sampling and analysis at load port or on discharge by an independent inspection agency can be arranged, and we recommend agreeing an umpire clause in the contract.
